Experience Music Project (Rock-n-Roll Museum), Seattle, WA* Architect: Frank O. Gehry & Associates, Inc.
with previous employer Magnusson Klemencic Associates |
A State-of-the-Art Museum located in Seattle Center next to the Space Needle, Experience Music Project is an interactive museum blending exhibits with cutting-edge technology. It explores the roots of Rock-N-Roll through jazz, soul, gospel, country and the blues, in addition to its influence on hip-hop, punk, and rap.
Construction cost was over $200 million. The 140,000 sq. ft. building consists of seven different elements (building sections). Six of the elements were constructed by casting shotcrete onto unique and curving two-dimensional structural steel members to create a three-dimensional surface. The seventh element is comprised of multi-story braced frames around four exterior walls. The building sits on an elevated concrete formed floor at ground level.
