House at Biddeford Pool, Biddeford, ME Architect:  Stephen Blatt Architects The original home was a 1,350 sq. ft. summer cottage.  Zoning laws dictated that the new house could only be 30% volumetrically larger due to its proximity to wetlands.  The first floor was raised 3 feet in the new construction and a basement was inserted below.  The new house is 1,750 sq. ft. and has 3 levels plus a basement.  The design evolved into a tower with decks on every level and a library on the top floor with dramatic views of the wetlands and ocean in all directions.  The existing shed in the backyard was replaced with a new 200 sq. ft. guest cottage.       Additional Projects
